The Rumbling Grumble
The title is a little off-putting; it makes me wonder if I need to see a urologist.
The fact is that my soul does leak, and I continually have to do something to fill it up again. I know some practices help, like mindfulness, practising gratitude, breathing exercises and meditation.
Then the thought appears, does this work long-term? It seems like a temporary fix for the moment and not a solution for my human condition.
It’s flipping exhausting.
Nature speaks back
Are we to regard life as an endless cycle of events, or are we to see it as an adventure of faith? Are we to see ourselves as caught in the tumble dryer of life, or people who grab life with two hands and speak to it with authority and positivity?
It’s been raining here for two weeks, and I confess that I have had dark thoughts, ones that tie up with the tumble dryer thesis. When I finally got out into nature, I noticed this leaf was laden down with raindrops. It seemed to be reaching out to me with a message of its own.
“Talk to me, leaf,” I said.
The leaf sighed,
“Am I weighted down by the water on me?”
“Yes, it looks heavy”, I replied, “I am so sorry. Life is hard, hey.”
“No, don’t be sorry, I’m sorry for you in your faulty mindset. Can you not see me reaching out to you? That would be impossible without the weight I carry. Can’t you see that I am carrying a load of jewels? They are more beautiful than any jewels in any shop you care to enter. I am calling you to see with new eyes, and with a new attitude of faith - that life is wonderful, even though the weight at times is heavy. Don’t hold on to your thoughts so tightly, be more childlike and come and celebrate life with me. ”
To Conclude
I don’t need to see a urologist for the soul; I am simply standing in the wrong place. As I move my position, I see that the practices of childlike mindfulness are wonderful tools to lead me back to Truth.
